Adele 21

27 February 2011 No Comment

I first came across Adele when iTunes made Chasing Pavement the free single of the week in January 2008. What struck me when I first heard the song was how soulful she was… especially considering that she was a) 19 at the time and b) did not live through the soul music era. Luckily she managed to stumble upon Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald while browsing at a local HMV store.

Adele’s vocals on her debut album 19 let you know why she won the Critic’s Choice award from the BRIT awards. Her voice is soothing from start to end, but I should also mention that some of the songs are mediocre at best. My favourites include:

  • Chasing Pavement
  • Melt my heart to stone
  • First Love
  • Make you feel my love

Fast forward to 2011 and Adele has released her sophomore album entitled 21. Once again the album has a lot of filler songs – but it is still worthwhile. Notable tracks include:

  • Rolling in the Deep
  • Someone like you
  • Take it all
